A Positive Journey Through DORS

Background
Julie was supported referred to DORS as part of a discharge support plan from hospital. Previous mental health experiences had disrupted her university studies, impacted on her confidence and limited her independence.
The DORS team provided tailored, recovery-focused support:
- Building Independence: Guiding Julie in using public transport, reducing anxiety through tools like Google Maps and weekly planners.
- Emotional Well-being: Introducing coping strategies, including grounding and breathing exercises.
- Strengths-Based Approach: Leveraging her organisational skills to structure routines and encouraged activities like gardening, cooking and art groups.
- Financial Empowerment: Assisting with securing benefits and applying for a bus pass to enhance independence.
Outcomes
With support from DORS, Julie has achieved the following significant milestones:
- Confidently navigates public transport and engages in community activities.
- Established a meaningful daily routine, reducing isolation.
- Gained financial independence.
- Continues to build confidence by attending support and social groups.
